SCENE Director’s Chair Contest 2

It’s been a while since my last post. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on securing a new job, the SCENE Director’s Chair Contest 2, and have not had too much free time to write or post. I’ve also spent a lot of time watching House M.D. All it took was one episode, and I was hooked all over again.

The Verney project is currently on hold, as I am working on shooting a 15 second SCENE card commercial. I shot most of it on my 1994 JVC Super 8 camcorder…or is it High 8? I am not too good with the technical stuff, but I am working on that. Though most of the scenes have been shot, I’ve yet been able to put it all together because I do not have a way to transfer the videos from the device to the computer.

It’s been an interesting process shooting this very short 15 second commercial. The hardest part was to get off my ass and actually start the project.  I found that once I got the camera plugged in, and the tape rolling, I was just in the zone. Things flowed smoothly from one shot to the next, and before I knew it, I was done. Never had I felt so confident, and knew so precisely what I wanted to do.

I will be picking up a new camera this weekend from an auction I won off eBay. I originally wanted a Panasonic DVX-100A because it was the only camera I knew about. After finding out about the Canon GL2, and reading some reviews, I felt that at my level and for the things I wanted to do, the GL2 more than enough meets my needs, and according to other users, it definitely stacks up against the DVX in some regards.

I plan on re-shooting all my scenes for the commercial once I get the new camera. I had a trial run where I felt good and comfortable with what I was doing. The second time around, I should get even better results. I will put some clips up, or even the whole 15 second video once I have it all done next weekend.
