Wall-E is a warning to us all
Disney always likes to send a message with the movies they put out, and Wall-E is no exception. Watch the flick, and take it for what it is, but don’t discount it as just another animated film. Wall-E reminds us all of the impending fate that awaits us if the human race doesn’t get it together and put an end to our so called way of living.
Wall-E really went out there and fathomed “What would the world be like if our habits do not change?” It didn’t look only at the environmental damage we are causing, but also the damage we do to our own bodies. In a way, it’s a comical take on the future that awaits us. With our constant dependency on gadgets and fast food, I would not be the least surprised if Wall-E knocked it out of the park, painting us all with fat bodies, with stubby arms and legs, confined to an electric floating chair, with a constant communication interface in front of us.
As a kid, I would have said, “Oh my goodness, that is the life I want to live!” And totally not understand the point that Wall-E is trying to make. Though I doubt the flick is going to change my life in any way, it has brought my eating and interaction habits up to trial.
The movie also painted a very desolate future Earth, with life completely unsustainable on the surface. The whole movie revolves around the concept of human devastation. We had turned the planet into such a wasteland that only a robot, attempting to clean up the place, and a cockroach are the only two inhabitants. Eventually, Wall-E, the main character finds a plant, showing that the Earth was once again ready to sustain life, and this prompts the the humans to return home.
It was a pretty risky flick*, because from a kids point of view, there wasn’t much to the movie. Wall-E wasn’t particularly cute or had a catchy tag line. In fact, the characters were pretty dull for the most part. As an adult however, it’s one of the few movies this year that really sent a message that hit home.
*Apparently, some fat people got really upset over the movie’s usage of fat people.
